No Dogma in This Font

This is a watercolor ink “painting” that hangs in my house. It’s painted by the Buddhist master named Thich Nhat Hahn. Thay (as he’s called by students) has this unbelievable painterly font that he uses to paint his (or the Buddha’s) quotes. His font and painting style are so graceful and effortless, as if you could feel enlightenment while looking at it.

I bought the painting as a fund raiser for his world peace efforts. I look at it everyday and find it sort of relaxes me into something divine. For those who might not know, “The Pure Land” as mentioned in the painting is Nirvana (not the band) but the freedom from suffering we are all capable of.

Freedom is now. As the present moment is all we have.
